Understanding SEO and the techniques

You could spend, as many do, searching for the rest of your life to find the ultimate SEO techniques that work and will drive your site to the top of the search engine rankings, but truth be told, most efforts could be fruitless or even harmful to your sites rankings.

Google can’t be controlled

Some time ago, it became apparent to the chaps at Google that their algorithms could be manipulated, by keyword stuffing, meta description stuffed with keywords that the Google thought were relevant.

Now if Google could be manipulated, it would become worthless, why?? Google as we all know is the worlds largest and most used search engine, it does exactly what you want it to do, a simple front end screen gives you the ability to enter in a few words to find sites that are relevant to what you are searching for, but spin back a few years and those searches you did started to bring up quite a few pointless results, the answer was simple, the more useless the results came back the more worthless Google would become……..

So what was the answer, well Google couldn’t simply just stop using a majority of its algorithms, but obviously in order to maintain its quality, had to start looking at ways of not allowing for web designers and SEO companies to be able to, shall we say, “beat the system”

How Google changed its style

With the role out of various major algorithm changes like Panda, Google aims to clean up the search service of the web, of course there are reports of many casualties amongst these but looking at the kind of sites that are now ranking high you can see a pattern emerging that is bringing back quality content sites over and above spam filled, commercial gaining website that really didn’t offer the end-user and decent information.

Paid result or Organic results

As with all search engines, they are a business first , they are there to make money, and of course therefore offer a number of advertising solutions to tempt you in to appearing at the top of search results, but this brings up a rather trending issue, who really does click on the “sponsored results” anymore, this is a tricky one to answer, some have said they believe the major algorithm changes were designed in such a way in order to push companies back into spending advertising money to get back at the top of the page.

So as more and more companies attempt to get to the holy grail of Page 1, it’s becoming more and more tougher to get that key top spot

So a new approach to SEO

Step back from the web for a second, and just write websites for your customers, imagine your website as a single page advert going in to a major tabloid, you’re going to spend thousands, so you have to get it right. Would you really produce an advert stuffed with keywords or would you write it in a human and appealing manner, providing key information and using simple offers.
